As many as 14,000 people could have been killed-many not by the plane attacks themselves, but by trying to exit the buildings. Had the attacks occurred later that morning, when the number of occupants in each tower would have swelled to nearly 20,000, fatalities would have been significantly higher. And yet for one simple fact-the time of day-it would have been far more deadly. It’s hard to imagine that the disaster at the World Trade Center on Septemcould have been any worse.
